Orphan Works Bill

I posted this over on mediangler.com and thought it was important enough to more or less replicate here. I set up a petition over at thepetitionsite.com. I’ve never launched a petition before so it’s new territory. Still I am tired of big businesses trying to rook artist and writers’ work.

Please sign it and pass it on.

I have been inundated with information about this bill and am very glad that I am seeing it here. All artists need to be involved more with issues of this sort.
One of the things that we as artists need to understand is that we can no longer go with the flow and allow big business to devalue us and our work. Not only is our self esteem involved here but we, as artists, are the only ones who truly value change and how change is a positive thing that promotes our next steps forward. Corporations, on the other hand, only value what they can make into a commodity. They seem to create their own kind of luxe branding.
You can see how corporations and the banking industry have partnered in creating secretive ways to luxe brand bonds and how the stock market has tanked and we all have to deal with an administration that will bail out these children over and over again.

The corporate irresponsibility is at a current all-time high as greed seems to be the new luxe brand where CEO’s are paid more than the gross national products of some small towns. Middle America is on its knees as we are told inflation doesn’t exist outside the oil and food markets. Have any of these people bought a loaf of bread lately? Do these people not understand that the two things that effect middle America the most are the costs of gasoline and food and lets not forget that as every week goes by our personal property is worth less and less with the devaluing of our home and property values. Since when do these guys get to tell us that there is no inflation and deflation at the same time.

To our detriment, we, as artists, are taken for granted time and time again. Not only do corporations devalue us, they devalue our way of thinking. They debase us as animals on a treadmill working for them, the fat cats of industry who do nothing but scheme and nickel and dime us to death. I say take a stand. Take a stand now while you still have a backbone

I agree Jon - writers already got pretty well stuffed by big corporations. We’ve seen our income half in the past two years.
